Christopher’s Story

Dear Friend,

It wasn’t too long ago that my life seemed hopeless. Drugs and alcohol had consumed my life for much too long, almost taking my life, and robbing me of my most precious relationships with my three children. My story is much different now. It’s one of hope and faith, sobriety and fatherhood. And now, a chance to give back.

Through William’s House’s partnership with Vision Warriors, these are the organizations that continue to help transform my life. I have an opportunity to reunite with my 22-month old son and I hope you will read on and consider praying and helping not only me, but my son and the next generation.

More About My Story

Hi, my name is Christopher. I am a 39-year-old born-again believer. I’m also a former drug dealer, addict, alcoholic and convict. My life has been redeemed by the grace and love of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I am a single father of my 22-month-old son. He is currently in foster care and in DFACS custody. I have been growing in my relationship with God. I have also been growing my time in sobriety through the accountability and transparency of the community. I have also grown in a relationship with my son and my two older children.

In addition to living at Vision Warriors and working with William’s House, I’m also working full-time. I have also been working to regain full-time custody of my son. This includes my Financial Literacy Case Manager working with me on debt management and credit restoration.

This also involves working with my DFACS case manager and working through my case plan that includes:

  • Parenting classes (16)

  • Counseling

  • Drug and alcohol evaluation

  • Psychological evaluation

  • Random drug screenings

  • Numerous meetings and classes of various types

  • Bi-weekly visits with my son

While I’ve completed much of the work of my case plan, the only thing I am missing in order to be reunited with my son is — housing. As I prayed about this situation and sought the wisdom and advice from my brothers, God answered my prayers and revealed the path forward...

The Family Suite

At Vision Warriors there is an unused basement in one of our locations. I have graciously been given permission to use this space for Christian and myself as our new transitional home. But of course, we must complete the update of the space for this purpose. This is where you come in!

Won’t you join me in helping bring to life the new Family Suite? Not only will this space serve me and my family, but future generations of men who need a safe, affordable and comfortable space to call home as they continue to work on their recovery.

In this empty basement, we will modify the space to create an apartment with all the comforts of home...kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom, and family gathering space. My brothers and I will be doing much of the labor of the build-out of the space. I am personally fundraising in hopes of raising $10,000 for the remaining materials and labor required for the family suite.

So in closing I would like to leave you with what Vision Warriors and William’s House has taught me over this past year. They have instilled in me what it means to have goals, dreams, and a vision; and what it is to actively pursue them. How to push against resistance and battle through pain in order to be a better disciple of Jesus Christ and father to my children.

With all that said, this is my vision and reason for this project in a nutshell.

My short-term vision is to help transform the basement and turn it into the Family Suite so that Christian and I can be reunited! Long-term vision is for this to start a legacy for the future men of Vision Warriors and William’s House… to give them a safe place to reunite with their families. And that they, too, can have hope for the future and the community this place provides.
